An exciting opportunity exists to join the Paediatrics Department at Wollongong Hospital.
Where you'll be working
Wollongong Hospital is the Illawarra and Shoalhaven’s major referral and teaching hospital and has a bed base of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.

What you'll be doing
The Wollongong Paediatric Service is the higher-level referral centre for paediatric care in ISLHD and includes a Paediatric Ward (20 beds), Neonatal Unit (12 beds) accepting deliveries of babies 32 weeks and over, the Paediatric Assessment Unit and Neonatal Hospital in the Home service.
Wollongong Paediatrics has a 24 hour junior medical officer workforce including seven paediatric trainees and five residents (SRMOs and PGY2 RMOs). Paediatric consultants are available for support on site within business hours and on call outside of business hours.
The position is particularly suited to trainees who can work independently managing neonatal and paediatric patients with off-site supervision from consultants and are planning a career in Paediatrics.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- At least three years' post graduate experience in public hospital service (or equivalent)
- Demonstrated a commitment to pursuing a career pathway involving paediatric medicine. This may include previous clinical paediatric experience, completion of or plan to undertake any courses in paediatric medical care.
- Ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment.
- Demonstrated experience in taking comprehensive patient histories, performing clinical examinations and accurately documenting in patient records.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure the appropriate management of the patient.
- Ability to demonstrate accurate decision-making and to seek further advice in accordance with level of experience and showing an awareness of limitations.
- Proven ability to organise, plan and manage competing tasks.
