Shoalhaven Hospital is a busy rural hospital which employs over 1,000 staff and is the main acute care hospital for the Shoalhaven region, providing emergency care, medical, surgical and orthopaedic services.  Shoalhaven Hospital has an Intensive Care Unit focusing on high dependency and coronary patients, Children’s Ward and Maternity Unit as well as a purpose-built regional Cancer Care Centre and sub-acute Mental Health Unit. Shoalhaven Hospital is currently undergoing a $438 million redevelopment.



What you'll be doing

The trainee under supervision will provide effective medical services within a patient centred geriatric model of care to patients, while developing expertise in a Geriatrician led interdisciplinary care and management practice, in a complex clinical environment. There is the opportunity to rotate through subspecialty modules within Geriatric Medicine including orthogeriatrics, psychogeriatrics, consults to other teams, Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) in addition to acute and subacute patient care. In addition one of the rotations is designed to facilitate care of patients in RACF using telehealth to attempt to avoid unnecessary hospitalisations and ED presentations. This is an RACP accredited training position. The position may involve a rotation to Shoalhaven which will include community and outreach plus acute inpatients and orthogeriatrics. 

 
  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
  2. Completion of at least 3 postgraduate years of medical training with a demonstrated interest in Geriatric Medicine
  3. Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised clinical environment using excellent clinical skills, judgement and expertise
  4. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and demonstrated ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
  5. Evidence of continued professional development and commitment to self-education as well as a willingness to teach and support junior medical staff
  6. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management
