What you’ll be doing

An anaesthetic trainee position at St George Hospital provides training in the specialty of anaesthesia guided by the training program of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists. All sub-specialty units may be completed on the St George training scheme.

 

Training is conducted in a friendly supportive environment with supervision always available. Regular teaching, including preparation for exams, is provided including in the onsite simulation skills centre.

 

The case mix includes the following surgical specialties – cardiothoracic, vascular, orthopaedic, obstetrics/ gynaecology, neurosurgery, trauma, gynaecology, plastics, ear/nose/ throat, maxillofacial, urologic, breast/ endocrine, and some paediatric surgery. Most elective orthopaedic, hand and ophthalmic surgery is not performed at St George. The Department also provides services for cardiology, radiology, MRI and the endoscopy suite.

 

To be able to apply, the applicants must have at least four years post graduate experience in public hospital service (or equivalent) at the commencement of the position.

St George Hospital and Health Services is an accredited, principal teaching hospital of the University of New South Wales. It is the largest hospital within South Eastern Sydney Local Health District with 627 inpatient beds. St George Hospital is a Level 1 Trauma Centre and a leading centre for trauma and emergency management in NSW. Selection Criteria

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category
  2. Demonstrated ability to apply excellent clinical skills, knowledge & judgement
  3. Demonstrated insight and reflective learning
  4. Demonstrated teamwork, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
  5. Demonstrated communication skills, both written & oral, with patients, families, colleagues, and the public
