Where you'll be working
SESLHD is one of the largest local health districts in Sydney, covering a geographical area of 468 square kilometres from Sydney’s central business district, the beaches from Bondi to Cronulla and down to the Royal National Park. We deliver health care to around 930,000 residents across the local government areas of Woollahra, Waverley, Randwick, Bayside, Georges River and the Sutherland Shire. We also provide a key role in helping residents of Lord Howe Island. Our staff also deliver high quality health care across a variety of community-based services ranging from pre-birth to palliative care.
The role
This senior Social Worker/Psychologist role is part of the SESLHD BEACON Project (Building End-of-life Awareness, Compassion & Outreach Networks). The project’s goal is to equip individuals, families, and communities with the skills and knowledge they need when navigating serious illness, dying, and grief.
In this role, you will work closely with communities, using engagement, education and community development approaches to support people in understanding and coping with end of life issues. You will assist in delivering community education on topics such as advance care planning, palliative care and death literacy.
Your social work and psychological expertise will be central to supporting participants who may be personally affected by these topics, helping to create a safe, empathetic, and responsive environment.

Selection Criteria
- Qualifications in accordance with Schedule C of the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award and eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional learning. Psychologists require a recognised 4 year degree in Psychology, along with full registration with AHPRA and min 8 years’ experience post full registration.
- Extensive post graduate clinical experience in end of life, palliative &/or bereavement care including advance care planning, therapeutic skills in end-of-life care including counselling.
- Demonstrated excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, throughout all organisational levels.
- Demonstrated effective communication skills and ability to provide high level clinical advice from an education and training perspective and support to others in providing service excellence in a variety of clinical and non-clinical settings.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to apply advanced reasoning skills and independent professional judgement when dealing with situations of a novel, complex or critical nature.
- Demonstrated ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes.
- Demonstrated active participation in developing, implementing, and reporting on services.
- Current drivers licence (or a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position).
