About the service:

Hunter New England Local Health District is seeking a Technical Officer (Biomedical) Grade 2 professional to join our Clinical Technology team. 

Depending on commencement timing and operational needs, this Newcastle-based role may work across Maitland Hospital, Calvary Mater Newcastle and John Hunter Hospital, supporting service continuity during staff leave periods.

John Hunter Hospital is one of NSW’s largest and most advanced tertiary referral and teaching hospitals, renowned for its trauma services, cutting-edge technology, and strong research culture.

About the role:

As a Biomedical Technician, you will ensure medical equipment across the service is maintained, repaired and tested to the highest standards. 

Working as part of the Clinical Technology team, you will:

  • Diagnose and repair biomedical equipment in a timely manner to minimise clinical downtime
  • Undertake preventative maintenance and routine testing in line with AS/NZS 3551
  • Maintain accurate service documentation in accordance with HNELHD policy and legislative requirements
  • Support clinical staff by providing technical advice and assistance
  • Participate in equipment commissioning, decommissioning and asset lifecycle processes
  • Contribute to a safe workplace by complying with infection control, safety standards and risk management procedures

 

This role allows you to directly contribute to patient safety and care quality while working closely with clinicians and other health professionals.
 

About you:

You are a motivated and capable technical professional with a commitment to high standards. 


You bring:

  • A minimum AQF Certificate IV qualification, such as Electronics and Communications, Associate Diploma in Electronics, Diploma in Electronics or Advanced Diploma in Electronics
  • Strong communication skills and a team-focused mindset
  • A responsible, safety-conscious approach that aligns with the duty of care required in a healthcare environment
  • ICT network or equipment integration experience, desirable but not essential
  • A current NSW Driver Licence and the willingness to travel for work purposes
  • Your ability to work independently, manage priorities, and collaborate across clinical environments will set you up for success.
