About Singleton Hospital

Singleton District Hospital is a heritage-listed facility that has proudly served the local community since 1907. Formerly known as Dangar Cottage Hospital, it was the first permanent hospital in the Upper Hunter region and continues to play a vital role in delivering quality healthcare services.
The hospital provides a wide range of services including 24-hour emergency care, inpatient and maternity services, allied health, dialysis, medical imaging, pathology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, podiatry, social work, speech pathology, orthopaedics, surgery, women’s health, and virtual care.

 

About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists for a motivated and customer-focused Telephonist Level 3 to join the team at Singleton Hospital.
The Telephonist is responsible for operating the hospital switchboard, managing incoming and outgoing calls, and coordinating emergency paging systems including cardiac arrests, trauma alerts, and security requests. The role also involves clerical duties and delivering a professional, courteous, and efficient service to patients, visitors, and staff.
The switchboard is located at the Reception Desk within the Emergency Department and serves as the primary point of contact for the hospital.

Hours: 5 days/fortnight 1630-2100 (60-minute break)
Roster: Participation in a 7-day rotating roster covering a 24-hour service may be required.

 

Selection Criteria

We are seeking candidates who demonstrate:

  • Experience operating hospital switchboards and paging systems
  • Ability to assist staff and clients in a high-volume environment
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to remain calm, clear, and courteous in all circumstances
  • Willingness to work across a rotating roster, including all shifts
