About Singleton Hospital

Singleton District Hospital is a heritage-listed facility that has proudly served the local community since 1907. Formerly known as Dangar Cottage Hospital, it was the first permanent hospital in the Upper Hunter region and continues to play a vital role in delivering quality healthcare services.
The hospital provides a broad range of services including 24-hour emergency care, inpatient and maternity services, allied health, dialysis, medical imaging, pathology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, podiatry, social work, speech pathology, orthopaedics, surgery, women’s health, and virtual care.

 
About the role: 

An exciting opportunity exists for a motivated and customer-focused Telephonist Level 2 to join the team at Singleton Hospital.

The Telephonist is responsible for managing incoming and outgoing calls in a busy hospital environment, operating the hospital switchboard, and coordinating emergency paging (including cardiac arrest, trauma alerts, and security requests). The role also includes clerical duties and providing a professional, courteous, and efficient service to patients, visitors, and staff.

The switchboard is located at the Reception Desk within the Emergency Department and serves as the primary point of contact for the hospital.

Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30am – 4:30pm, with a 60-minute break.
Roster: Participation in a 7-day roster covering a 24-hour service may be required.

 
We are looking for someone who has:
  • Experience operating hospital switchboards and paging systems
  • Proven ability to assist staff and clients in a high-volume environment
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to remain calm, clear, and courteous in all circumstances
  • Willingness to work across a rotating roster covering all shifts

Requirements:

  • Participate in a 7 day roster working across all shifts cover a 24 hour day.

  • An eligibility list will be created for future permanent full or part time and temporary full or part time vacancies. 

  • This position is full time; however, part time/job share arrangements may also be considered.

  • To be eligible for permanent employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or a permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport.
