About the role:

As a Sterilisation Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and effective reprocessing of medical and surgical equipment used across a wide range of specialties.
A typical day or week involves:

  • Reprocessing medical and surgical instruments in line with statutory requirements and departmental policies
  • Supporting specialties including Orthopaedics, Trauma, and Neurosurgery
  • Using instrument tracking systems to ensure accuracy and traceability
  • Providing reprocessing services to both internal departments and external customers
  • Working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to support theatre and ward workflows

This is a hands-on role where attention to detail, reliability, and teamwork are essential.
 

Where you’ll be working:

You will be based within the Central Sterilising Department (CSD) at John Hunter Hospital, located on Level 1. The department operates 24 hours a day Monday to Friday, and 7:00am to 11:00pm on weekends and public holidays, delivering critical reprocessing services to John Hunter Hospital, Belmont Hospital, and Calvary Mater Hospital. CSD supports 15 Operating Suites, along with numerous clinics, wards, and external customers. The service is fast-paced, essential to patient safety, and highly valued across the district. Excitingly, the department will relocate to the new Acute Services Building in 2026, offering a modern, purpose-built workspace.

The team culture is supportive, collaborative, and safety-focused, with a strong emphasis on teamwork, communication, and continuous improvement.

Requirements:
Our successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Sterilisation Technology Certificate II or III in health service assistance (sterilisation services) or equivalent qualification and relevant experience in sterilisation services department within a healthcare facility.
