Staff Specialist or Visiting Medical Officer - Transplant Surgery 
Newcastle Transplant Unit | John Hunter Hospital 
Permanent Part Time (0.5 FTE) or Sessional VMO Appointment 

The Newcastle Transplant Unit is seeking an experienced and motivated Transplant Surgeon to join our multidisciplinary team at John Hunter Hospital.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a well-established renal transplant program providing both live donor and deceased donor renal transplant services to patients across Hunter New England and northern NSW. Working within a highly regarded transplant unit, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality surgical care, supporting service development, teaching, research and clinical governance activities. 

The successful applicant will provide specialist transplant surgical services including inpatient, outpatient and on-call care, while contributing to the ongoing growth and sustainability of the service. Depending on experience and training, opportunities may also exist to participate in laparoscopic donor nephrectomy, multi-organ procurement procedures, dialysis access surgery and management of general surgical issues in transplant recipients. 

About You

  • Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist and/or eligible through an overseas trained specialist pathway (for Staff Specialist appointments only)
  • FRACS (General Surgery, Urology or Vascular Surgery) or equivalent.
  • Experienced in transplant surgery with a demonstrated commitment to patient-centred care.
  • Passionate about teaching, research, quality improvement and multidisciplinary collaboration.
  • Committed to supporting excellence in clinical care, education and service development.
