Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above positions in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.  The positions will be primarily located at Nepean Hospital, within the Department of Neonatal Services.

 

Successful applicants will be a fully qualified Neonatal Intensive Care Specialist with experience in all aspects of resuscitation and stabilization of sick babies born in a level 6 Perinatal Centre or transferred ex-utero from other hospitals within NSW.  He/she should also be able to perform bedside ultrasound studies for assessment of cardiac function and should have experience in advanced neonatal resuscitation teaching, including the use of simulation equipment.
 

Successful applicants may be offered a conjoint university appointment within the Faculty of Medicine at the relevant University attached to each facility. The level of academic appointment will be commensurate with the qualifications, experience and scholarship and will be held only during the tenure of the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to the district for clinical matters.
 
The successful applicants are expected to participate in an on-call roster with seven other Staff Specialists working in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit/Special Care Unit.

Selection Criteria

 

  1. Possess or be eligible for registration with Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA).
  2. Possess Fellowship of the RACP and/or equivalent specialist recognition as provided for by the Health Insurance Act 1997 and Staff Specialists (State) Award. Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
  3. Current re-certification statement or certificate from FRACP with advanced training under the auspices of the Neonatal/Perinatal Medicine Specialist Advisory Committee. Applicants who have fulfilled the RACP Neonatal/Perinatal Medicine Training requirements and are awaiting official certification by this Committee are welcome to apply.
  4. Sound clinical knowledge in Neonatology and Neonatal Intensive Care demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality assurance activities relevant to the specialty.
  5. High level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and junior medical staff supervision consistent with contemporary best practice supervision standards.
  7. Demonstrates the skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical /Dental Practitioner including modelling of a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff.
  8. Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied, or clinical research as required within the Department.

 

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Services Act 1997, and Staff Specialists (State) Award.
 
Employees and Contractors must abide by the NSW Health Code of Conduct.
