Staff Specialist in Public Health Medicine

Join our highly skilled and motivated Health Protection team in a rewarding role for an experienced Public Health Physician. This position is ideally suited to a consultant with expertise in rural, Aboriginal and One Health focused work, and a passion for contributing to evidence-based public health medicine. 

What you’ll do
You will provide contemporary, comprehensive and professional specialist public health services that are safe, effective, evidence based, and patient centred. You will deliver high quality health protection functions across communicable diseases, environmental health, immunisation, foodborne illness, and epidemiological advice to the people of the Hunter Region. A key focus will be to increase the appropriateness and effectiveness of Population Health services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Liaison with the public and agencies at local, state and federal government levels regarding communicable disease and environmental health issues
  • Involvement in strategic planning and programme quality review for environmental health, immunisation and communicable diseases with a particular focus on conditions that are notifiable (NSW Public Health Act)
  • Develop and implement systems to ensure data quality and equity in service provision, particularly for Aboriginal communities 
    Follow-up of infectious diseases outbreaks and conduct of outbreak investigations, and on-call service provision including as human biosecurity officer.

    What we’re looking for 
  • Fellowship of the Faculty of Public Health Medicine and specialist registration with AHPRA 
  • Evidence of recent and comprehensive experience in Public Health Medicine
