Staff Specialist in Psychiatry -
Drug and Alcohol Clinical Services Tamworth
Fixed term temporary part time, 0.5 FTE until June 2027

Hunter New England Local Health District Drug and Alcohol Clinical Services (DACS) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Staff Specialist in Psychiatry to join our team. In this role, you will provide high quality specialist psychiatric care, with a primary focus on the treatment of substance use disorders within DACS. Based in Tamworth, the position involves delivering face to face clinical services and may also include providing virtual care across the New England Northwest region as needed.

DACS aims to improve health and reduce harm for individuals, their families, carers, and the wider community. It is a specialist treatment service for people with substance use issues, grounded in a Harm Minimisation model of care. DACS is a multidisciplinary service comprising nursing, medical, and allied health clinicians, alongside peer support and Aboriginal health workers. The service operates across various community, outpatient, and inpatient settings, providing prevention, early intervention, drug and alcohol assessment, treatment, counselling, and case management throughout Hunter New England Health.

Eligibility criteria

  • Eligible for registration with AHPRA as a Specialist Psychiatrist and/or with overseas trained specialist pathways.
  • Recent and comprehensive experience in Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine including a minimum of 6 months supervised experience.
