The Role

The Nurse Manager is responsible for the strategic leadership, design, implementation, coordination, management and evaluation of a comprehensive Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC/CMC) Professional Development Program. The role aims to strengthen CNC/CMC capability, leadership, advanced clinical practice, research, education, quality improvement, and service innovation to support excellence in patient care and organisational outcomes. 

The Nurse Manager exercises a high degree of independent judgement and accountability in the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of the CNC Professional Development Program. The role is responsible for making decisions regarding program priorities, workforce capability development strategies, resource utilisation, stakeholder engagement approaches, and quality improvement initiatives. Strategic decisions with significant organisational, financial, or workforce implications are made in consultation with the Director of Nursing & Midwifery and relevant executive stakeholders.

Selection Criteria

  1. Registered Nurse who holds current unconditional registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and extensive clinical and management experience, supported by postgraduate qualifications in Health Management or active progression towards completion of such qualifications.
  2. Demonstrated senior nursing leadership experience within a complex acute healthcare environment.
  3. Demonstrated ability to develop and operationalise structured programs, including setting priorities, milestones and measurable outcomes.
  4. Experience in coaching, mentoring and capability development of senior clinicians.
  5. Demonstrated ability to promote evidence-based practice and support quality improvement initiatives.
  6. Demonstrated experience in overseeing effective change management in a health service.
  7. Highly developed negotiation, consultation and interpersonal skills with a range of stakeholders and objectivity in decision-making.
