An exciting opportunity is available for an allied health assistant to join the speech pathology team at Ryde Hospital. This permanent part time time position will provide care to adult acute and rehabilitation inpatients and outpatients under the direction of a speech pathologist. The role is dynamic and varied, with a mix of direct patient care (e.g. delivering therapy), indirect patient care (e.g. managing equipment and technology) and administration support (e.g. making bookings).

Ryde Hospital is having an incredible $479 million complete hospital redevelopment that will transform the delivery of healthcare for the Ryde local community.

The Ryde Hospital Redevelopment will result in new health facilities and enhanced services including emergency, ICU/critical care, inpatient units, outpatient/ambulatory care services and much more.

What you'll be doing
An Allied Health Assistant (AHA) engages in basic patient care, clinical duties and/or administrative support under the supervision of the designated Allied Health Professional (AHP). Clinical duties may include therapeutic and program related activities and the identification and reporting of changes in the client’s condition. The Allied Health Assistant may be engaged to work in a discipline specific area or assist in the delivery of allied health services across a multi-disciplinary team. 
 
This speech pathology AHA position provides assistance and support to the Speech Pathology (SP) team in the delivery of an efficient and high-quality communication, swallowing and burns scar management across to the acute service as directed.

People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply. 

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the role of an Allied Health Assistant within a large organisation. Ability to work independently under the delegation of an Allied Health Professional and the ability to collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team.
  2. A minimum of a Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance or willingness to undertake this training or other qualification deemed equivalent by NSLHD.
  3. Demonstrated understanding of the role of speech pathology in health, including rehab and acute services or a willingness to learn.
  4. Demonstrated computer literacy skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office and email applications.
