Achieve Something Great
Bankstown Hospital is seeking an enthusiastic Level 1–2 Social Worker to join our dedicated team and contribute to delivering high quality care for patients and families. We welcome applicants who have some experience in any of the following areas: Emergency, Paediatrics, Neonatal Care, Maternity, Obstetrics, Gynaecology, or broader Women’s and Children’s Health services, including DCJ experience.

In this role, you will provide psychosocial support across diverse clinical areas, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, patient centred care. You will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in high pressure environments while supporting families through complex health and social challenges.

At Bankstown Hospital, you will be part of a supportive department that values collaboration, professional growth, and innovation. We offer supervision, mentoring, and ongoing development opportunities, and we are committed to building a department that leads in best practice. If you are motivated to make a difference and want to contribute to a collaborative team we encourage you to apply.

  • Provide comprehensive psychosocial assessments, counselling, and support to patients and their families.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, coordinated, and patient-centred care.
  • Support vulnerable patients through complex health, social, family, and safeguarding matters, including DCJ-related concerns.
  • Deliver social work services across a variety of acute clinical settings, including Emergency, Paediatrics, Neonatal Care, and Women's Health.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, service development, and evidence-based practice within the Social Work Department.

Are You the Right Fit?
The ideal candidate is a compassionate and motivated Social Worker who is committed to delivering patient-centred care in a busy acute healthcare setting. You will have strong communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to build rapport with patients, families, and stakeholders, and experience managing complex psychosocial issues. You thrive in a multidisciplinary environment, demonstrate sound clinical judgement, and are passionate about supporting vulnerable individuals and improving health outcomes across Women’s and Children’s Health services.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality psychosocial assessment, intervention, and advocacy for patients and families.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams while managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of child protection, safeguarding, and complex social issues, including experience liaising with DCJ and community support services.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development, evidence-based practice, and continuous improvement in service delivery.

  • A Social Work degree which provides eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
  • Please describe your experience working as a Social Worker in woman and child health, including your experience supporting women and children experiencing illness, trauma or high risk pregnancies and assessing and providing interventions when safety concerns are identified.

  • Describe a situation where you worked both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team to achieve a positive outcome. What was your role, and how did you contribute to the team's success?
  • Can you provide an example of how you have engaged in clinical supervision and ongoing professional development to enhance your practice? How has this learning influenced your work?
