Join us as a Senior Social Worker (Level 3) in the Substance Use in Pregnancy and Parenting Service (SUPPS). The Social Worker will work collaboratively with a Child & Family Health nurse providing quality care for vulnerable families with complex care needs, maintaining a focus on safe parenting, attachment and healthy childhood development. We provide a strengths-based, domestic violence informed, trauma informed and culturally safe program delivered in partnership with Drug & Alcohol and other health and non-government services. This position sits within the Counselling Violence Prevention & Response Team in Child Youth & Family Services.

The Substance Use in Pregnancy and Parenting Service provides specialist parenting support by promoting safety and healthy child development within a harm minimisation framework to families with children aged 0-5 years who have experienced substance use and other vulnerabilities in pregnancy and/or parenting. You will be based in Botany conducting outreach and home visiting across Northern SESLHD.

The Social Worker will plan, coordinate and implement in depth levels of clinical expertise and extensive specialised knowledge in parental substance use with a focus on safe parenting, attachment and healthy childhood development,  in order to provide high quality and trauma informed  care across Northern SESLHD. The Social Worker will have a deep understanding of the impacts of colonisation, barriers faced by Aboriginal people and their families and ensure a culturally appropriate service delivery to clients and their families with children from birth to 5 years consistent with NSW Ministry of Health (MoH) and South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) policies, procedures and standards.

Selection Criteria: 

  1. Qualifications in Social Work in accordance with Schedule C of the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award with eligibility for membership with AASW.
  2. Evidence of clinical experience as a practising Social Worker in complex child & family issues in the early years and advanced knowledge of trauma, drug and alcohol, mental health and domestic violence on parenting.
  3. Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, throughout all organisational levels.
  4. Understanding of and commitment to quality improvement processes and the application of evidence based practice within child and family social work.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of child wellbeing & child protection policy, legislation and practice.
  6. High level skills in communication, advocacy, negotiation, time management, conflict resolution and interagency liaison.
  7. Ability to design, plan, implement and evaluate group work programs.
  8. Current unrestricted class C NSW Drivers Licence.
