We are seeking another Anaesthetist to join our team at Cooma Hospital, part of the Southern NSW Inland Network!
 

Cooma Hospital and Health Service

Cooma Hospital is a 20-bed acute hospital. We offer emergency medicine; surgery (Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, endoscopy, general surgery and obstetrics); inpatient services; general medical, surgical and maternity beds; renal dialysis; outpatient oncology; pathology collection; pharmacy; and medical imaging (x-ray, CT and ultrasound).

Cooma Community Health is co-located with the hospital on the corner of Victoria and Bombala Streets. Community health services encompass aboriginal health; nurse lead women, children, family and general services; aged care services such as the aged care assessment team (ACAT), transitional aged care assessment program (TACP) and dementia care team; oral health; drug and alcohol; mental health for children, adolescents and adults; sexual health; cancer care; outreach renal clinic, palliative care; and allied health services such as physiotherapy, social work, occupational therapy, podiatry, speech pathology and dietetics. Many community allied health services are provided in the hospital.

Cooma

Cooma is a thriving pastoral hub of the Snowy Mountains, situated in South-eastern NSW on the unique Monaro plains. It is approximately 100km due south of Canberra.

Cooma is the largest town in the Snowy Monaro region with a population of approximately 6700 people. It has a passionate community of arts, history, nature and outdoor enthusiasts. There is so much to see including the award-winning Charles Davis Photographic Gallery and a thriving café and restaurant scene.

The surrounding areas offer amazing opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast: bushwalking mountain bike trails, horse riding and trout fishing to name a few. For skiers and snowboarders, the NSW snow fields are only an hour away.

Southern NSW Health District

Southern NSW LHD covers a large area of the state, a total of 44 537sq kms. It extends from the pristine beaches of the NSW South Coast to the farmlands of the Southern Tablelands, across the picturesque Great Dividing Range and the spectacular Snowy Mountains.

Southern NSWLHD comprises of two networks, Inlands and Coastal. The Inland network surrounds the ACT, and extends south to the Victorian border. It is centred around the towns of Goulburn, Queanbeyan and Cooma. Coastal network is in the far south-east corner of NSW and includes the coastal towns of Bega, Batemans Bay and Moruya.

What you'll be doing

Provide anaesthesia services for elective surgeries including: endoscopy, general surgery, gynaecology, obstetrics and orthopaedics. 

Provide obstetric anaesthesia and analgesia services, including elective and emergency caesarean sections, and labour epidurals. 

Provide support to the emergency department and inpatient unit for critically unwell patients, procedural sedation and/or regional anaesthesia when required. 
 

GP VMO, Specialist VMO or Staff Specialist. Sessional and/or Fee for Service contracts are available.

Additional work in Emergency, Inpatient Medicine or Obstetrics may be available for interested and appropriately qualified applicants.

1. Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA), OR

Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP), or

Fellowship of Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM), AND

Advanced Certificate in Rural Generalist Anaesthesia (RGA), or

Joint Consultative Committee Anaesthesia (JCCA) accreditation

Current Rural Generalist/GP trainees who have completed their advanced training in Anaesthesia are also encouraged to apply.

2. Eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).


Selection Criteria Essential:

  1. Recent clinical experience in anaesthesia, including obstetric anaesthesia.

  2. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.

  3. Understanding of and ability to work in a rural context.

  4. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues and staff; and effective communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills.

  5. Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, and research and quality improvement.

  6. Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time.
