Senior Resident Medical Officer - Intensive Care Medicine

An exciting opportunity is available at Lismore Base Hospital for a Senior Resident Medical Officer (PGY3+) in Intensive Care Medicine for the 2027 clinical year, commencing 1 February 2027. The successful applicants will gain valuable experience in our hospital in the beautiful Northern NSW LHD / Richmond Network, working under the guidance of highly experienced senior clinicians.
The Lismore Base Hospital (LBH) Intensive Care Department is a modern unit located in the North Tower of the redeveloped hospital we currently operate with nine-beds but have capacity to open to thirteen if required. Our ICU provides a variety of services including:
- Respiratory support including Ventilatory and non-ventilatory support
- Coronary care and cardiac monitoring
- Renal support
- Trauma, and
- General Intensive Care services.

What you'll be doing
Decision making and supervision will be at the appropriate level according to the trainee’s skills, knowledge and experience. All patients managed within the hospitals of the health service are under the direct care of a specialist medical practitioner. All decisions regarding their care are to be clearly communicated with the specialist responsible for that care.
The position supports meeting prerequisites for future training with the College of Intensive Care Medicine.
- Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role (please address these in your response)
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a supervised environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team with an understanding of the roles of the doctor and other members of the healthcare team.
- Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, family members and other members of the health care team.
- Good organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
- Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self-education, training and development opportunities to further develop skills and knowledge in the area of Critical Care / Intensive Care Medicine.
