The Anaesthetics and Intensive Care SRMO positions at Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) and North Shore Private Hospital (NSPH) provides junior doctors with an exceptional opportunity to gain experience in the assessment and management of critically ill patients, perioperative medicine and anaesthetic care within both public and private healthcare settings.
Working closely with Anaesthetists, Intensive Care Specialists and multidisciplinary teams, SRMOs are actively involved in the care of patients undergoing a wide range of surgical procedures and those requiring advanced critical care support. The role offers exposure to airway management, perioperative patient assessment, procedural skills, postoperative care, resuscitation and the management of complex medical and surgical patients.
At Royal North Shore Hospital, trainees gain experience within a major tertiary referral and trauma centre caring for highly complex patients across specialties including trauma, neurosurgery, cardiothoracic surgery, vascular surgery and emergency medicine. At North Shore Private Hospital, trainees benefit from exposure to a high-volume elective surgical service and a broad range of specialist procedures, providing valuable insight into both public and private healthcare systems.
This position offers a strong foundation for doctors considering future careers in Anaesthesia, Intensive Care Medicine, Emergency Medicine or other acute care specialties. What you'll be doing
During the ICU rotation Residents will gain experience and provide clinical care, under appropriate supervision, to patients requiring Intensive Care in a complex clinical environment. Residents will have responsibilities and opportunities for autonomous practice commensurate with their level of experience.

Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specific Diseases
To be employed by NSW Health, applicants must provide evidence of vaccination and comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy Directive (PD2024_015). Compliance with this policy, including any amendments made from time to time, is a mandatory condition of employment.
