Supercharge your training at St George Hospital

What you'll be doing

St George Hospital Emergency Department provides a complete ED teaching and training program. Senior Resident Medical Officers (SRMO’s) in ED will have access to regular weekly teaching and access to dedicated FACEMs to support their development.

The primary purpose of the SRMO in Emergency Medicine is to provide high quality medical care under appropriate supervision to undifferentiated patients presenting to the Emergency Department.

The SRMO undertaking the care of medical patients should ensure that they operate within their own level of expertise within a collaborative clinical care model and to seek consultation with their colleagues when appropriate. The SRMO works under a level of supervision according to their competence in the following activities:

  • Participate in coordinating the admission, assessment, management, and discharge planning of patients

  • Have direct clinical involvement in the care of all patients, including the critically ill

  • Providing assistance or clinical supervision to junior medical staff commensurate with their level of   experience

  • Communicating assessment and management decisions to other staff involved in the patient's care

  • Communicating with the patient / family regarding the patient's condition and management plans

  • Coordinating diagnostic tests and consultations with other medical specialists

  • Arranging the patient discharge process and liaising with local medical officers and community based care modalities for optimal post discharge care

  • Be actively involved in teaching, research and quality programs.
