Unique opportunity to commence Term 4, 2025 in Intensive Care at St George Hospital!
For 2026 Clinical year you will then undertake 3 months training in each: Anaesthetics, Intensive Care, Paediatrics & Emergency.
After completing the 12 months in the Critical Care Rotation it is expected that you will have gained the following experience & skills:
• Administration of anaesthesia and pre-operative assessment of patients under senior supervision.
• Management of critically ill patients in Intensive care and Emergency department under senior supervision.
• Assessment and management of paediatric patients with senior medical officer input.
• Technical skills including vascular access, airway management and ventilation.
• Resuscitation and the management of cardiac arrest and deteriorating patients.
• Teaching and supervision of undergraduate students undertaking critical care rotations.

St George Hospital and Health Services is an accredited, principal teaching hospital of the University of New South Wales. It is the largest hospital within South Eastern Sydney Local Health District with 627 inpatient beds. St George Hospital is a Level 1 Trauma Centre and a leading centre for trauma and emergency management in NSW. The hospital’s proximity to Sydney airport makes it a vital service providing first response to the airport precinct.
The hospital is in Kogarah, 14 kilometres south of the Sydney CBD. It is well serviced by buses, trains and major roads. The area is well known for its cosmopolitan cafes and restaurants, as well as its food and cultural markets which showcase the distinct flavours and traditions of Kogarah's multicultural community.
Selection Criteria
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
- This position is only for PGY 3 and 4 level (by the end of the current clinical year)
- Experience working in Australia at least for 24 months
- Evidence of current & ongoing participation in continuing medical education / professional development e.g. completion of relevant courses such as ALS 2, BASIC, EMST, APLS or similar.
- Should have completed at least 2 critical care terms by the end of the current clinical year
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills (verbal and written), and computer skills.
- A professional attitude and flexibility in work role with a preparedness and ability to participate in after-hours overtime and on-call rosters.
- Interest in pursuing a possible career pathway in either Emergency Medicine, Intensive care &/or Anaesthesia.
