What you'll be doing
WSLHD - SRMO - Critical Care, Auburn Hospital
A Critical Care term for senior resident medical officers (SRMOs) who are interested in pursuing a career in Anaesthetics, Intensive Care Medicine or Emergency Medicine. The SRMO is under the supervision of a Consultant Medical Officer for all terms. Some teams also have supervision by a trainee or Career Medical Officer. The purpose of the position is to provide medical care and support, as part of a multi-disciplinary team that is consistent with the level of clinical training, skills and experience of the appointee. The SRMO will be assigned to rotations in Emergency Medicine, Anaesthetics, General Medical/Cardiology and General Medicine/Respirator.

During the year the SRMO will participate in assessment and management of patients under the supervision of senior practitioners whilst developing their knowledge and skills in clinical decision making and practice. This position is rotational comprising of 4 terms. This position also participates in the Auburn After Hours JMO roster and oncall for sick relief. 




  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia
  2. Advanced ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the planning, delivery and coordination of patient care.
  3. Completed at least 2 Post Graduate Years, one of which must have been completed in an Australian Public Hospital (not as an observer) and experience in Emergency Medicine, ICU or Anaesthetics
  4. Advanced organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment.
  5. Excellent clinical knowledge, skills and team work and demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment.
  6. Ability to recognise the acutely unwell patient and to initiate immediate management and institute Basic Life Support
  7. A professional attitude and flexibility in work role with a preparedness and ability to participate in after-hours overtime and on-call rosters and demonstrated good organisational and time management skills. Demonstrated excellent communication skills (verbal and written), and computer skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
