Wollongong Hospital is the Illawarra and Shoalhaven’s major referral and teaching hospital and has a bed base of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.

What you'll be doing
 

Senior Registrar of Upper Gastro Intestinal (GI) and General Surgery will work with three Upper GI surgeons to provide tertiary level Upper GI district wide services including pancreatic, hepatic and oesophagogastric resections for cancer. 

Responsible for the provision of independent and effective medical care of surgical patients under the supervision of specialist staff, the Surgical Senior Registrar will undertake emergency surgery and inpatient and outpatient surgical consultations including in the Emergency Department. Additionally the Senior Registrar would generally have a right of private practice.
  1. MBBS or equivalent, current general registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. Minimum five years post graduate experience with previous experience in General Surgery. Applicants are required to have obtained Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) before they can be considered for appointment
  3. Sufficient skills, knowledge and experience to practice as a safe and competent senior registrar
  4. Teamwork and leadership skills
  5. Excellent time management and organisational skills
  6. Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills
  7. Experience in teaching both undergraduate & postgraduate students
  8. Moderate computer skills
