Royal North Shore Hospital - Pharmacy Department

What you'll be doing
As the Senior Production Unit Manager, you will lead and operationally manage the aseptic production unit at Royal North Shore Hospital, overseeing the manufacture, validation and supply of specialised sterile pharmaceuticals for inpatients and outpatients. This includes cytotoxic and hazardous therapies, total parenteral nutrition, patient‑specific parenteral analgesia, and other sterile products prepared in accordance with national standards and legislative requirements.
You will be responsible for the safe, efficient and compliant operation of the sterile suite, ensuring equipment readiness, development and adherence to standard operating procedures, and alignment with AdPha standards, NSW Health, NSLHD policies and Australian aseptic compounding guidelines.
Through effective leadership, you will supervise, support and develop staff, manage recruitment and performance, and foster a positive, high‑functioning team culture aligned with NSW Health CORE values.
A key focus of the role is education and capability development. You will provide specialist training, mentoring and expert advice in aseptic production to pharmacy staff, hospital clinicians and external stakeholders, including maintaining a continuous training program for rotational Grade 1 and 2 pharmacists.
You will work closely with senior pharmacy leadership, multidisciplinary clinical teams and external suppliers to support service planning, procurement and continuous quality improvement. The role also contributes to broader pharmacy operations, including participation in seven‑day services and on‑call rosters, ensuring the production unit continues to meet patient needs in a complex, fast‑paced quaternary healthcare environment.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Current registration as a pharmacist with the Pharmacy Board of Australia (or eligible for immediate registration) with no conditions or restrictions on practice and evidence of extensive experience in hospital pharmacy practice.
  2. Proven high level of competence, expertise, skills, and ability to apply clinical judgment to provide advanced level clinical pharmacy services in the area of aseptic and extemporaneous pharmaceutical production.
  3. Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of the requirements for complex aseptic compounding according to national standards and guidelines as applicable to NSW Public Hospitals.
  4. Leadership and management experience that demonstrates competence at the consolidation level defined within the Advanced Pharmacy Practice Framework and experience managing the provision of pharmacy services in accordance with National Safety and Quality Health Standards.
