Senior Network Engineer – HWAN Delivery Team (Health Manager Level 4)

About the Opportunity
As Senior Network Engineer in the HWAN Delivery Team, eHealth NSW, you will play a key role in supporting and securing network infrastructure across NSW Health. You will collaborate with internal teams, customers and vendors to deliver and resolve complex network issues. 


This role involves mentoring junior engineers, configuring and managing network devices (routers, switches, firewalls, out-of-band tools like Cisco, Fortinet, Cradlepoint, OpenGear), performing and overseeing network migrations, upgrades, and decommissions.  There may be occasional after-hours work to support network initiatives.

In this role, you will:

  • Generate and apply configuration to network devices within a mixed-vendor environment 
  • Create technical training content and train junior network engineers.
  • Migrate, upgrade, and decommission networks for eHealth NSW and its customers.
  • Create Network designs, complete technical handover checklists, change implementation plans and other artefacts required by the project. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, eHealth NSW customers and third-party vendors to plan, test, troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues. 
  • Review and approve network changes, ensuring stability and strict adherence to Change Management processes.
  • Ensure network monitoring and maintain up-to-date documentation.
  • Participate in planning meetings to coordinate changes and migrations.
  • Manage IP subnet allocations across WAN and LAN environments.

 

About You

We’re looking for someone who combines technical expertise with strong communication skills. You’ll ideally have:

  • Cisco CCNP (Routing & Switching) or equivalent experience
  • Advanced knowledge of BGP routing, MPLS, and tunneling protocols (GRE, IPSec)
  • Experience with FortiGate/FortiManager, network monitoring (SNMP, SolarWinds), and IPv4 management (DHCP, Infoblox)
  • Network automation experience preferred (Ansible, Jenkins, Python scripting)
  • Experience in managing tasks in Servicenow and documenting work.
  • Exposure to Agile – Kanban way of working is an added advantage.
  • Attention to detail, a collaborative mindset and commitment to continuous learning
