NSW Health Pathology is seeking a motivated and collaborative Histology Section Leader to guide a high performing team in delivering quality diagnostic services that make a real difference to patient care across NSW. This is an exciting permanent full time opportunity within the Anatomical Pathology team based in Liverpool will help combine your technical expertise with your passion for leadership, mentoring staff, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring excellence in laboratory operations.

What you'll be doing
Responsible for the leadership and management of scientific, technical and support staff, overseeing all testing, associated laboratory activities and operational logistics within the assigned laboratory. The role is accountable for maintaining quality, cost efficiency and operational integrity, ensuring regulatory compliance and accreditation standards are met, and providing effective human resource, business and resource management. The position also requires the demonstrated ability to lead and manage a complex Histology service within metropolitan Sydney.

- Bachelor Degree or higher degree in Science/Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification, with subjects relevant to pathology from a recognised tertiary institution.
- Customer focused approach displaying well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers, patients and clinical and laboratory staff, along with report writing skills, statistical evaluation of scientific data and the ability to effectively communicate policies and procedures
- Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of accreditation frameworks, relevant standards and quality systems and quality assurance program management
- Demonstrated managerial skills with experience in laboratory operations, administration and budgeting, rostering, and procurement.
- Advanced knowledge of Pathology Laboratory Information Systems including supervision of e-based Quality Management Systems
- Extensive high-level knowledge and experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist within the relevant section of the laboratory, with demonstrated ability to work effectively in a hands-on laboratory environment and operate and maintain analytical equipment in a pathology laboratory.
- Sound understanding of legislation, policies and requirements that impact the laboratory environment including work health and safety and privacy requirements
