About Us
Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD) is an exceptional environment to advance your career while enhancing your skills and expertise. As a recognised leader in the healthcare industry, we deliver a comprehensive range of public health services across the Nepean, Blue Mountains, and Lithgow Regions.
Introducing the Nepean Adolescent Mental Health Unit (NAHMU), a fresh, purpose built 10-bed facility dedicated to supporting adolescents aged 12 to 17 who are navigating complex and severe mental health challenges. This state-of-the-art inpatient unit is the newest chapter in the Child, Youth and Family Mental Health (CYFMH) story, expanding its reach to provide compassionate, specialised care from the earliest stages of life through to young adulthood. NAHMU isn’t just a place of healing, it’s a vital step forward in empowering young people and their families with the support they need, when they need it most.
We are seeking an exceptional Senior Exercise Physiologist to join our multidisciplinary team and lead the delivery of advanced, specialist movement‑based interventions for adolescents experiencing complex, severe and co‑occurring mental and physical health challenges. This is a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of youth mental health, where your expertise will directly influence recovery, safety and long‑term wellbeing for young people navigating acute illness, physical instability and treatment‑related complications.
In this senior role, you will undertake comprehensive diagnostic assessments and design highly specialised individual and group interventions tailored to young people whose presentations often fall outside standard practice guidelines. You will be relied upon for sophisticated clinical reasoning in situations where evidence is limited, presentations are novel, or rapid deterioration requires immediate, expert decision‑making. Your leadership will be central to managing high‑risk behaviors in physical activity settings, adapting interventions when standard protocols are contraindicated, and ensuring safe, recovery‑oriented care across the unit.
You will shape the future of exercise physiology within NAMHU by driving service development, establishing clinical pathways, implementing outcome frameworks, and leading quality improvement initiatives that strengthen the role of movement‑based therapies in youth mental health. As a senior clinician, you will provide professional supervision to junior staff and students, contribute to research translation, and build capability across CYF‑MH. Working with a high degree of autonomy, you will champion youth‑centered practice and support seamless transitions from inpatient care back into the community.
This is a rare and rewarding opportunity for a highly skilled EP who thrives in complex clinical environments, values interdisciplinary collaboration, and is motivated to influence system‑level change in youth mental health care.
