We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Engineer – Hybrid Compute to provide dedicated infrastructure engineering, operational support, and technical leadership for NSW Ambulance's mission-critical technology environment. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting scalable, resilient hybrid computing solutions that bridge traditional on-premises infrastructure with modern cloud platforms.
This is a hands-on, technically demanding role ideal for seasoned professionals with deep expertise in Cisco UCS, virtualisation, cloud integration, container orchestration, networking, automation, and enterprise infrastructure technologies, particularly within complex, mission-critical environments.
As a Senior Engineer, you will play a key role in driving the modernisation of infrastructure systems, enabling secure, highly available, and high-performing hybrid architectures that support NSW Ambulance operational, clinical, and corporate services. The role requires a strong focus on operational excellence, service reliability, cyber security, business continuity, and continuous improvement.
In this role, you will:
- Design, deploy, and manage hybrid infrastructure integrating on-premises systems with Azure and AWS Native and VMC environments.
- Lead modernization and migration of legacy systems to hybrid cloud architectures with deep knowledge of VCF platforms, NSX-T,vSAN and FC storage for multi domain environments.
- Design, build, and maintain virtualized environments (VMware, Hyper-V) and container platforms (Kubernetes, OpenShift). Utilize Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, Ansible) and leverage scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, Bash) for automation and configuration management.
- Build and maintain virtualized environments (VMware, Hyper-V) and container platforms (Kubernetes, OpenShift) with LCM and VCF Operations Management.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define hybrid strategies, secure architectures, and cloud landing zones.
- Apply DevOps and Agile practices to enhance reliability, scalability, and deployment efficiency of hybrid systems.

About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Extensive demonstrated experience in systems engineering or infrastructure, including hybrid cloud environments (Azure & AWS) and VMC environments.
- Expert-level proficiency in virtualization platforms, including VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V, as well as experience in patch management and application deployment using Microsoft SCCM.
- Hands-on experience with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes at scale, advanced Infrastructure as Code expertise particularly with Terraform and strong scripting skills in PowerShell, Python, and Bash.
- Familiarity with DevOps tools, CI/CD pipelines, Agile delivery, and ITIL-based processes via ServiceNow.
- Excellent communicator and collaborator with proven leadership and mentoring experience.
