The primary responsibility of the Senior Dental Officer is to provide a high standard of general oral health care, including oral health education, to eligible patients resident in the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District. In addition, this position is required to regularly manage patients with oral health problems of greater than usual difficulty. 

 

The Position Holder is also responsible for: 

  • Management of clinical services at designated clinic/s, 
  • Providing professional direction and support to level 1,and 2 dentists and dental/oral health therapists, and 
  • Participating in clinical performance and clinical governance systems. 
 
 
The specialist will provide expert medical assessment and management of patients within the department/service. 
 
 

The primary location of this position may be varied as agreed with the Director of Medical Services and as apps ehTproved by MDAAC to other facilities in SESLHD.

All applications must include a demonstration of your ability to meet each of the selection criteria in order to progress through the recruitment process.

 

  1. Current registration as a Dentist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  2. A minimum of five years post-graduate experience in the practice of dentistry and a demonstrated ability to exercise independent professional judgment.
  3. Demonstrated exceptional competence in general dentistry and a proven record for carrying out a broad range of advanced and complex clinical cases.
  4. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a clinic based dental team; and demonstrated history of working well as a collaborative member of a multidisciplinary dental clinic team.
  5. Demonstrated experience providing professional advice and support to dental officers and oral health/dental therapists.
  6. Demonstrated experience leading and implementing quality improvement activities and participate in clinical research activities as required.
  7. Evidence of sound supervision and mentoring skills to supervise students on clinical placements; and commitment to doing so on a regular basis.
  8. Ability and willingness to travel within the Local Health District for work purposes.
