About the Opportunity:

The Senior Data Governance Officer position is a critical role within the Office of the Chief Executive, dedicated to ensuring that NSW Ambulance's data is safe and trusted across the entire organisation. This role involves the management and coordination of the development and implementation of a robust Data Governance Framework. The role drives consistency in data management by developing and maintaining essential tools, standards, and documentation, including policies and procedures.

NSW Ambulance is a complex, statewide organisation providing services that are often high-profile and politically sensitive, with a high level of community expectation. Therefore, a major focus of this role is on influencing and supporting a diverse range of internal stakeholders to maintain appropriate data governance management methods, standards, and processes.

The position acts as a key advisor, providing expert advice on data governance issues. It prepares high-quality reports, correspondence, and briefs to support effective communication of progress, risks, and issues directly to Senior Leaders and Executives. The role supports the Senior Manager Governance and the Associate Director Corporate Governance in operating an effective framework. Success in this position is contingent upon the delivery of data governance initiatives to required standards in-line with NSW Health and data governance standards, demonstrating the value of good data governance, and maintaining a focus on high-quality outcomes.

About You:

We are looking for someone who:

  • Possesses proven data governance expertise by having demonstrated experience in building, implementing, and maintaining robust data governance programs and frameworks
  • Is a skilled communicator and influencer who can tailor advice and reports for diverse audiences, including senior leaders and executives, while effectively collaborating and negotiating with stakeholders to achieve consensus
  • Demonstrates resilience and self-management by acting as a professional role model, seeking and applying feedback for improvement, and remaining composed and decisive in a complex and often changing environment.
  • Has a strong understanding of the complete information lifecycle, including data protection and the related business and technology issues, coupled with the ability to plan, organize, and deliver multiple outcomes within tight timeframes.

How to Apply:

Please respond to the below two questions (max 4000 characters including spaces) and submit this with your CV and other required information.

Question 1: The core function of this role is to establish and maintain a robust data governance framework to ensure NSW Ambulance data is safe and trusted. Describe a time when you received critical feedback—from a stakeholder, colleague, or senior leader—regarding a component of your data governance program or a decision you made. How did you process that feedback, and what specific action did you take to both address the concern and apply the learning to improve the overall data governance program?

Question 2: The role requires achieving results through the efficient use of resources and a commitment to quality outcomes, often in an environment where the data governance function is still being established. Describe a major data governance initiative or project you were responsible for delivering. Specifically, how did you use business data or metrics to evaluate the quality of your outcomes and inform continuous improvement for the framework? What steps did you take to manage limited resources and ensure the project was delivered within set deadlines?
