The Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District Alcohol and Other Drugs service offers free, non-judgmental services and treatments for drug and/or alcohol use, including information and support for families. Our service offers specialist drug and alcohol doctors, nurses and allied health staff who respect the client's right to choose from a range of treatments offered with our services underpinned by a philosophy of harm reduction.
A rewarding opportunity is now available for an experienced clinician to join the Community Drug and Alcohol Service, supporting the Team Leader of the Community Drug and Alcohol Community Teams. This position plays a vital role in providing senior clinical and operational leadership, contributing to the ongoing development and excellence of the NBMLHD Community Drug and Alcohol Team. In this role, you will deliver high‑level, comprehensive drug and alcohol assessments alongside broader psychosocial evaluations, ensuring treatment planning is informed by expert clinical judgement. You will provide evidence‑based psychosocial interventions designed to support patients in achieving their agreed treatment goals and making meaningful progress in their recovery journey. What you will bring to the role
- Tertiary qualifications, professional registration/membership and significant clinical experience as follows: i) Occupational Therapy - Degree in occupational therapy or equivalent recognised by the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia and current registration with AHPRA; or ii) Social Work – Degree in Social Work from an accredited course providing eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers; iii) Counselling - Minimum AQF level 7 qualification recognised or accredited by the Peak Body (PACFA) with eligibility for membership as a counsellor with PACFA.
- Demonstrated extensive post graduate clinical experience in a drug and alcohol treatment setting managing complex client groups and circumstances of a complex nature requiring advanced practice skills and the provision of evidence-based interventions for alcohol and other drug using clients.
- Demonstrated a high-level ability to effectively build relationships with all stakeholders, plan and organise, provide expert clinical reasoning skills.
- Demonstrated advanced reasoning skills with proven ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team with minimal direct clinical supervision. In addition, demonstrated capacity to act as an independent consultant in the specialty area of a senior clinician in drug and alcohol.
- Evidence of advanced level of verbal/written communication skills, analytical and interpersonal skills and the ability to apply these skills to contribute to the Community Drug and Alcohol Team ongoing evaluation, monitoring and enhancement of service delivery. This includes the preparation of high quality written and oral clinical and operational reports.
- High level of computer literacy and ability to use a range of software programs for the purpose of record keeping, data collection, and working from mobile locations using Microsoft Teams.
- Experience in, or commitment to, working with individuals and families from Indigenous backgrounds and/or diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Current driver’s license and the willingness to travel for work purposes.
