The Mental Health Commission NSW is seeking interested applicants for the position of Senior Communications Officer. As a senior member of the Communications team this role works with subject matter experts to deliver end-to-end communications and event management support across the Commission.

The Mental Health Commission of New South Wales (the Commission) was established in July 2012. The Commission's purpose is to lead, drive and measure mental health, wellbeing and suicide prevention reform across whole of government.  Our progressive work shapes contemporary policies to achieve the best outcomes for the people of NSW.

Primary Purpose of the Role
The Senior Communications Officer plays a key role in delivering end-to-end communications, and event management support across the Commission.  

The role provides both strategic and hands-on support to project teams, ensuring the effective implementation of communication plans that align with the Commission’s priorities. The role supports major campaigns and system reform initiatives through consistent messaging and with consideration to stakeholder engagement. 

Acting as a trusted advisor, the Senior Communications Officer works closely with managers and staff, consulting widely to ensure alignment and impact. The role also contributes to the ongoing development and improvement of the Commission’s communications systems and procedures. 

As a senior member of the communications team, this position is responsible for producing high-quality content in collaboration with project subject matter experts, helping to deliver the agency’s communications strategy and achieve project objectives. 

About You
You are a skilled communications professional with tertiary qualifications in communications, journalism, digital media, or a related field. With experience developing and delivering strategic communication plans for complex projects ideally within a government setting, you excel at crafting clear, engaging content tailored to diverse audiences across digital, media, and internal channels.
You bring strong project management skills, the ability to navigate government protocols, and a talent for building relationships that ensure alignment and impact. Confident under pressure, you manage competing priorities while maintaining attention to detail and quality. Above all, you are passionate about delivering communications that inform, engage, and support meaningful change.

Essential Requirements: (to be addressed in your application) 
•    Tertiary qualification in communications, journalism, digital media, marketing or similar/related field. 
•    Experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating strategic communication plans that support statewide projects, initiatives, or organisational priorities. 
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences across multiple channels, including digital, media, and internal communication platforms. 
•    Knowledge of government communication protocols, policies, and approval processes, and the ability to navigate complex organisational structures to ensure alignment and compliance. 
•    Sound project management skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality communications outputs in a fast-paced environment. 
•    Experience planning, coordinating, and delivering internal and external events that support communication objectives and stakeholder engagement.
