About the Opportunity
We're seeking an experienced and passionate Senior Aboriginal Health Worker to support the delivery of the Aboriginal GOT IT program across South Western Sydney. Working closely with children, families, schools, and a multidisciplinary team, you’ll provide culturally safe care that strengthens emotional and social wellbeing.

Partnering with the Principal Aboriginal Health Worker and Team Leader, you’ll help embed cultural strengths in all aspects of care—from assessments to coordination—while ensuring the program remains grounded in community and culture.

What You'll Be Doing
The Senior Aboriginal Health Worker is responsible for supporting the delivery of the Aboriginal GOT IT program to children, their parents / carers and schools across South Western Sydney Local Health District. The Senior Aboriginal Health Worker will play a key role in supporting the cultural integrity of the program in collaboration with the Principal Aboriginal Health worker and Aboriginal GOT IT Team Leader. The key responsibility of this position is to ensure a culturally responsive service delivery across psychosocial supports and lead cultural strength mapping within assessment and care co-ordination. The position will work as part of the multidisciplinary team to deliver all program components.

 

Where You'll Be Working 
SWSLHD Community Mental Health Services provide comprehensive, community-based mental health care across South Western Sydney.

These services cater to different age groups, including children, adolescents, adults, and older persons, ensuring specialised care throughout various life stages. The multidisciplinary teams offer a range of supports, including mental health assessments, crisis intervention, care coordination, and therapy. They work closely with inpatient services, GPs, and other community organisations to provide holistic care.

  1. This is an Identified Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Position. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and being accepted in the community as such. Exemption is claimed under Section 14 of the Anti Discrimination Act 1977.
    Has completed or working towards a minimum Certificate IV qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or a Certificate IV Health qualification in the area of care in which the Aboriginal Health Worker works, or demonstrated relevant experience.
  2. Can you describe how you’ve incorporated cultural practices into your service delivery with Aboriginal children or families? How did these practices strengthen engagement, and what impact did they have on care outcomes?
  3. Tell us about a time you coordinated care for Aboriginal children or families with complex psychosocial needs. How did you approach the assessment process, collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, and ensure culturally appropriate, holistic support?
  4. Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
