Liverpool / Fairfield Community Mental Health Services are seeking a Senior Aboriginal Health Worker to provide culturally safe support for Aboriginal infants, children, young people, adults and their families accessing mental health care.

Working across community mental health services, you will support individuals and families to navigate mental health systems in culturally safe, family-centred, and trauma-informed ways. The role involves walking alongside families through complex mental health pathways, strengthening engagement with services, and supporting continuity of care back into community.

You will play an important role in supporting clinicians across teams to work effectively with Aboriginal families, contributing cultural knowledge to care planning and service responses. Through strong partnerships with Aboriginal organisations and community services, you will help shape mental health care that reflects the social and emotional wellbeing needs of Aboriginal people. Liverpool / Fairfield Community Mental Health Services are seeking a Senior Aboriginal Health Worker to provide culturally safe support for Aboriginal infants, children, young people, adults and their families accessing mental health care.

You are passionate about providing culturally safe, recovery-focused support to Aboriginal children, young people, and their families accessing community mental health services. You thrive working within multidisciplinary mental health teams, contributing to engagement, care coordination, and culturally responsive practice. You are committed to mental health promotion, early intervention, and community engagement to improve awareness and access to culturally appropriate services. You build strong, respectful relationships with Aboriginal Medical Services, community organisations, and other supports to ensure seamless, holistic care. You support families to connect with appropriate services following mental health care, promoting continuity of support within the community, and you actively share your knowledge and experience to strengthen cultural responsiveness across teams and support fellow Aboriginal Health Workers.
 

 

Selection Criteria

1. In this role being an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a genuine occupational requirement. Tell us about your mob and connection to culture? 
2. Willingness and ability to complete further education in Mental Health or relevant qualification (refer to position description)? 
3. Describe a time you supported Aboriginal individuals, families, or communities in a culturally safe way. How did you incorporate cultural perspectives within mental health care, work with others, and follow appropriate processes? 
4. Tell us how you have engaged with Aboriginal communities and stakeholders to promote mental health awareness, improve access to culturally appropriate services, and support culturally responsive care within clinical or service settings. 
5. Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
