The Paediatric Transplant Department at The Children's Hospital at Westmead is seeking a temporary 1 FTE (40 hours per week) Post Graduate Fellow to join their team from 2 November 2026 to 10 October 2027.

 

An opportunity is available for a full-time Post-Graduate Fellow to join the Department of General Surgery as a Paediatric General & Transplant Surgeon at The Children's Hospital at Westmead. 


The Post-Graduate Fellow although primarily employed as a member of the paediatric transplant team will be required to provide a proportional amount of time to supporting general surgical services, including on - call 
and teaching duties within the Sydney Children's Hospital Network. 


The Post-Graduate Fellow will participate in the management of and provide a consultative 
service for children and adolescents with hepatobiliary disorders as well as participate in solid organ retrieval as 
required. 


The Post-Graduate Fellow may be expected to complete further training as directed by the Head 
of Department and as demanded by service provision requirements. 


The Post-Graduate Fellow in the department are responsible for providing excellent clinical services to 
children and their families as part of a multidisciplinary team. 


The Post-Graduate Fellow is expected to participate in a proportional share of the on- call roster (within Westmead or the network as required) and the functioning of the team in line with wider program and organisational plans. 


The Post-Graduate Fellow will participate in review and improvement activities as well as training and education of staff; they must abide by the hospital code of conduct and participate in annual performance reviews. 


The role will oversee and participate in provision of an acute care surgical service, management of acute 
surgical presentations, urgent in-patient and outpatient surgical acute care referrals, and will require training and 
commitment to Paediatric Transplantation. Candidates with prior and demonstrated recent experience in 
Paediatric Surgery and training in Transplant will be preferred. 


The Post-Graduate Fellow will be based primarily at CHW and will have a cross appointment with the Department of Surgery at Sydney Children's Hospital as an employee of the Sydney Children's Hospital Network.

  1. Obtained or eligible for FRACS (Paediatric Surgery) qualification with expertise in the care of tertiary and quaternary paediatric surgical conditions.
  2. Completed fellowship training in solid organ transplantation from recognized transplant training program within Australia or overseas
  3. Completed Fellowship training in paediatric solid organ transplant within Australia or overseas.
  4. Demonstrated commitment to paediatric surgery with experience and expertise in Paediatric surgery acute care delivery and trauma management.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  6. Excellent communication and liaison skills, fostering positive and productive working relationships between team members and with other disciplines.
  7. Demonstrated and ongoing tangible commitment to teaching and track record in and ongoing commitment to surgical research.
  8. Experience with and willingness to assist with service and strategic planning at a local and state wide level for paediatric acute care surgical services, in conjunction with other stakeholders and service providers.
