Join the Maitland Vascular Access Team – A Unique Opportunity in a Growing Specialty

The Maitland Vascular Access Team is a nurse-led team inserting difficult intravenous access, Midlines and Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters to the inpatients and Oncology Outpatients of the Maitland Hospital.  The Service is a Monday to Friday position from 0800-1630hrs or as otherwise negotiated.

This position offers a unique entry level into a specialty that comes along rarely. It offers a great opportunity to move into the realm of vascular access in a service that is still evolving. It is a Monday to Friday day shift position allowing improved work/life balance.

 

About the Role
The Vascular Access Team sits under the management of the peri-operative unit.

The successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Patient assessment and device selection based on evidence-based frameworks and fiscal responsibilities

  • Insertion of vascular access devices, including PIVC, Midlines and PICCs under strict asepsis

  • Review and managing existing vascular access devices when concerns re: patency, infection, complications reported

  • Adhere to local health policies and guidelines

  • Complete database on patients serviced with a vascular access device

  • Assist with stock levels and ordering of stock

  • Participate in the development and review of clinical procedures and contribute to quality improvement

  • Provide education to nursing staff, medical staff, patient and families.

  • Promote best practice in vascular access and device care

  • Support competency assessment and credentialling of staff

The successful candidate is expected to be able to backfill as required during periods of annual leave.

  • Knowledgeable in vascular access devices, dressings, and appropriate alternatives
  • An excellent communicator, able to engage effectively with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team


Essential Requirement

  • Demonstrated ability to insert peripheral intravenous catheters (PIVC)


Desirable Skills

  • Ultrasound-guided PIVC insertion
  • PICC line insertion credentialling
  • Midline insertion credentialling
