About the Role
Sydney Local Health District has a long and proud history of delivering care in the community including prevention, early intervention, assessment, treatment, health maintenance and continuing care services designed to improve and support the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities. This position is based at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
1. Mental Health assessments to consumers within the community experiencing acute mental health problems (including a rapid response when indicated) and determining an appropriate pathway to care (e.g., community treatment; assist consumers access and admission to inpatient treatment).
2. Short term mental health treatment in the community often as an alternative to hospital.
3. In reach to hospital to promote effective follow up post mental health admission.
4. Collaborative care for consumers transferring between hospital and community.
5. The model provides short term mental health interventions in the community for consumers experiencing mental health distress. Once the symptoms have resolved and the presentation is no longer acute the team collaborate with other stakeholders for the most appropriate ongoing care and treatment.
The Mental Health Nurse will practice in keeping with the standardised Sydney LHD position description for the profession in addition to this position description.

Ideal Candidate
- Recognised nursing tertiary qualifications, current nursing registration with AHPRA.
- Demonstrated competencies to provide contemporary mental health practice.
- Current NSW Drivers Licence (P1 and P2 acceptable).
