About the Role

Formed in 1882, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH) is a major metropolitan tertiary referral hospital and a principal provider of specialist healthcare. It remains one of the nation’s most respected hospitals, with a distinguished history serving the health needs of local, statewide, national and international communities.

  

The Public Health Senior Epidemiologist is responsible for maintaining, optimising and enhancing the power and performance of data systems in the Public Health Unit (PHU), and delivering high-level surveillance reports to inform public health initiatives. The role drives strategic research across the PHU and SLHD partners, applying rigorous methodologies in project design, data analysis, and interpretation to support evidence-based decision-making. The position is also a key resource and mentor for public health staff in the PHU for enhancing their skills in data analysis, reporting and research.

Ideal Candidate

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in epidemiology or public health including quantitative subjects , or equivalent experience in applied epidemiology practice in a public health environment. Advanced qualifications in database management, statistical analysis, digital skills and information processing and/or demonstrated capability in data visualisation and communication. 
  • Demonstrated high level technical expertise in epidemiologic methods and public health investigations. 
  • Demonstrated advanced digital skills, database management, with proficiency in the use of informatics, analytical software and data resources for epidemiological reporting and statistical analysis (e.g. R, SAS, SQL). 
  • High level competency and experience in the practice of epidemiology as applied to the monitoring, analysis and response to ongoing and emerging population and public health issues.
