Where you will be working
The vision for South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) is ‘exceptional care, healthier lives’. SESLHD is committed to enabling our community to be healthy and well, and to providing the best possible compassionate care when people need it.
St George ICU is an award-winning state of the art Level 3 Intensive Care unit in a 600-bed tertiary referral and the major trauma centre for SESLHD. The unit treats over 3000 patients each year and has 52 physical beds of which 36 beds are currently funded. Most surgical and medical subspecialties are represented in the case-mix in keeping with the tertiary referral centre status of the hospital. In addition to the major trauma, neurosurgery, cardiothoracic surgery and complex GI cancer surgery, the ICU provides a low volume ECMO service. In addition to the accredited training program for the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM), the unit also contributes to anaesthetics, surgery, physician and emergency medicine training. There is also a fully equipped simulation centre in the Intensive Care complex where regular multidisciplinary simulation sessions are held.
St George Hospital and Health Services is an accredited, principal teaching hospital of the University of New South Wales. It is the largest hospital within South Eastern Sydney Local Health District with 627 inpatient beds. St George Hospital is a Level 1 Trauma Centre and a leading centre for trauma and emergency management in NSW. The hospital’s proximity to Sydney airport makes it a vital service providing first response to the airport precinct.
The hospital is in Kogarah, 14 kilometres south of the Sydney CBD. It is well serviced by buses, trains and major roads. The area is well known for its cosmopolitan cafes and restaurants, as well as its food and cultural markets which showcase the distinct flavours and traditions of Kogarah's multicultural community.
