The Breast Cancer/ Phase 1 Clinical Research Fellow will be either in their final (3rd) year of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) medical oncology advanced training program or have completed attained their FRACP. The Fellow will be located within The Kinghorn Cancer Centre, St Vincent’s Hospital, Darlinghurst, and will be assigned to the Medical Oncology Department for the specified term of 1 year and will undertake tasks and responsibilities in the clinical care of patients with breast cancer, phase 1 and related research activities.

What you'll be doing

The Fellow will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and supervise medical students, junior medical officers (JMOs), and medical oncology advanced trainee registrars. It is also expected that the Fellow participates in clinical meetings and teaching and be subject to training and performance reviews. Initiative to undertake a higher degree in combination with this work eg PhD, MD is encouraged.
Routine clinical service responsibilities will be appropriate to the position. There is a requirement to undertake intermittent clinical duty coverage (outpatient and/or inpatient) of other medical oncology fellows or trainees who are absent due to leave or sickness.


The position will allow protected time for clinical and/or translational research/audit that will focus on cancer- related projects agreed with the Department Head, and supervisors Prof Elgene Lim/Dr Rasha Cosman/Dr Jenny Liu. There will be an expectation of working towards specific KPIs such as publications, diplomas, degrees, intellectual property, and/or research data to support future grant applications.

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. Final year (3rd year) of advanced medical oncology FRACP training or completed medical oncology advanced training with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, or equivalent.
  3. Demonstrated ability to be able to deliver a clinical or research goal or agenda that is achievable within the term of a 1 year fellowship.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills and judgment and expertise.
  5. Demonstrated organisational skills, good time management skills and capacity for self-directed learning and demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated capacity to work within a multi-disciplinary team.
  6. Demonstrated research track record and interest in a Higher Degree qualification eg PhD.
  7. Evidence of demonstrated commitment to core values of hospital based medical practice: patient care, teaching, research and quality improvement.
  8. Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia and incorporating the values in medical practice, patient care, teaching, research and quality improvement.
