Where you'll be working
This position is set at Westmead Hospital, in CIDM. This unit provides care and conducts clinical and basic research. Specifically, the Fellow will be based in CIDM and depending on their specialty interest (Infectious Diseases, Emergency Medicine, Critical Care and /or paediatrics) will be encouraged to participate in relevant allied departmental meetings.
Westmead Hospital is a 900-bed teaching hospital affiliated with The University of Sydney in the city’s western suburbs. It is a world-renowned facility offering state-of-the-art healthcare, including major trauma, bone marrow transplant, renal transplant, pancreas (islet) cell transplant, neurosurgery, cardiothoracic surgery, neonatal intensive care, and a cystic fibrosis service for adults.
Westmead Hospital and the WSLHD are home to a successful and highly credible infection control service of national and international standing. We have for decades contributed strongly to the quality and safety of patient care and in the growth of the professions of infection prevention and control and infectious diseases. The contributions and success of Westmead Hospital have been formally recognised by NSW Health with respect to quality awards for innovation in the management and reduction of Staphylococcus aureus blood stream infection, multi-drug resistant organism infections and bio-preparedness activities. Staff from the Westmead Hospital Infection Prevention and Control Service have been instrumental in the development of professional credentialing frameworks for infection control practitioners within the Australasian College for Infection Prevention and control
What you'll be doing
Deployment to other hospitals as part of a "flying squad" will be part of the role. The Fellow will be required to participate in QA activities related to Point of Care (POc) testing in the NBC environment.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia
- Appropriate postgraduate experience in Intensive Care, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine (Infectious Diseases-paediatric or adult), Public Health and/or Clinical Microbiology.
- Preference is given to registered advanced trainees with CICM, ACEM, RACP or RCPA
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Commitment to training in Intensive Care, Emergency Medicine or Infectious Diseases or a specialty that would be strengthened by a period of training in Infectious Diseases with a HCID focus.
- Familiarity with major computer-aided communication and database tools.
- Interest and/or experience in research and/or teaching & interest in training in research methodology
- Interest in training in clinical microbiology, critical care or Emergency medicine and/or public health and/or related discipline
