Junior Medical Officer


The purpose of this position is to provide effective Multi-Modality cardiovascular imaging services to patients under supervision, while developing expertise in advance cardiovascular imaging including: Advance Echocardiography, Contrast Echocardiography, Transoesophageal Echocardiography and Stress Echocardiography (Exercise, diastolic, dobutamine), Cardiac Magnetic Resonance and Cardiovascular CT, in a complex clinical environment in inpatients and outpatient areas in the public health organisation. A key role of the position is to facilitate the delivery of multi-modality cardiovascular imaging services to Nepean hospital. Masters or PhD opportunities are available with Dr. Pathan.

The Cardiology Provisional Fellow Research is a 0.5FTE part time position.

What you'll be doing

  • Performing, processing and co-reporting both clinic and research cardiac MRI exams.
  • Processing and reporting cardiac CTs.
  • Assist with Echocardiography, Contrast Echocardiography, Stress Echocardiography and Transoesophageal Echocardiography.
  • Participate in Department of Academic Medicine by assisting with obesity I imaging research scheme.
  • Facilitate ethics, screening, recruitment and scans for research participants on studies by Dr Pathan.
  • Quality control of echocardiography audits.

Where you'll be working

  • Masters or PhD opportunities are available with Dr. Pathan.
  • Involvement in obesity/atrial strain/ reproducibility research- including design, implementation of trials and statistical analysis.
  • Participation in journal clubs, seminars and specialty talks organised by individual specialty departments of Medicine.
  • The Fellow must undertake relevant research to facilitate adequate competencies within the department as determined by Dr Faraz Pathan.

Essential requirements
  • MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
  • Completed Cardiology training with Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians by 2023 or assessed by RACP as partially or substantially comparable.
  • Demonstrated clinical practice as a registered medical practitioner in the last 2 years in a setting appropriate to the needs of the position. 
  • This position is subject to an appropriate supervision level which can be supported by the health agency. If the incumbent’s registration conditions include supervision requirements, the level of supervision must be able to be supported by the health agency for this role. 
  • Valid Working with Children Check, cleared National Police Check.
  • Compliance with NSW Health Policy Directive PD2020_017 for Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination against specified infectious diseases.
  • To be employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy, this includes any amendments made from time to time.

  1. Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.

  5. Advanced verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences.
  6. Demonstrated ability to prioritise workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development and self-education.
  8. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
