Prince of Wales Hospital and Community Health Services is a major teaching hospital and tertiary referral centre, providing excellent healthcare to south-eastern Sydney and specialist health and medical services to NSW.

We have 450 inpatient beds and almost 3,000 staff. Each year we care for more than 60,000 patients in our Emergency Department and around 50,000 patients are admitted to the inpatient units of our hospital. We also have a busy outpatient service and rural outreach service and provide more than 900,000 occasions of non-admitted patient care each year.

Our hospital is affiliated with various Universities and premier medical teaching facilities which enables our staff to provide excellence in healthcare in conjunction with our commitment to quality clinical teaching and leading medical research.

Catheter Laboratory is co-located with a very busy Echocardiography Laboratory and Cardiac Surgical Unit in a Tertiary referral institution. 

 

What you'll be doing

The purpose of this position is to provide high level preventative, screening, diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation services across general and specialised cardiac medical problems. The Provisional Fellow is expected to undertake advanced level training in a sub-specialty area of Cardiology and will have exposure to and training in the full spectrum of Interventional Cardiology Procedures under the supervision of specialist cardiologists and develop complex clinical skills to become clinically proficient prior to independent practice.

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
  2. Completion of both Basic Training (3yrs) and Advanced Training in Cardiology (3yrs) under the RACP training program requirements or equivalent. Completion of Core training in Cardiology (RACP) and conferred Fellowship of the RACP.
  3. Demonstrated advanced ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services
  4. Demonstrated advanced ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise and demonstrate excellent theoretical knowledge and clinical judgement
  5. Demonstrated advanced verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with other health professionals and demonstrated excellent work practices, such as diligence, punctuality, organization, record keeping and team work
  6. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
  7. Demonstrated ongoing commitment to further education and professional development and demonstrated ability to teach, and willingness to participate in the teaching of Medical Students, Junior Medical Staff and other clinical staff
  8. Demonstrated understanding of research methodology or research experience and a willingness to undertake research proposal.
