We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Principal Manager, Planning and Strategic Office to lead a diverse portfolio of strategic, health service, and business planning initiatives. This senior role provides high-level oversight and leadership across multiple planning projects, guiding a team of planners in delivering impactful outcomes that align with NBMLHD’s strategic direction. The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in health service planning, program management, and stakeholder engagement, applying innovative and evidence-based approaches to service development.
With a strong understanding of NSW Health frameworks and methodologies, the Principal Manager will ensure planning processes are transparent, data-driven, and responsive to local needs. The role demands exceptional leadership, the ability to navigate complex and politically sensitive environments, and a commitment to fostering collaboration across internal and external stakeholders. The Principal Manager will also play a key role in developing and refining planning frameworks, driving continuous improvement, and championing NBMLHD’s SAFER values (Safety, Agility and responsiveness, Fairness and equity, Excellence, and Resource effectiveness).

What you will bring to the role
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent industry experience in health service management, project management/program management, business management or health related discipline.
- Extensive leadership and management skills, demonstrating the ability to lead senior teams of varying skillsets and experiences, towards a common vision.
- Proven track record in effectively managing and reporting on multiple complex projects on time and within budget, to deliver sought outcomes.
- Superior interpersonal and written communication skills, influencing and negotiation skills and ability to effectively engage multiple stakeholders, including senior managers and senior clinicians.
- Demonstrated ability to apply strategic and innovative solutions in addressing complex issues and risks that are often of a political nature.
- High level knowledge and experience in the use of relevant planning data sources including but not limited to Ministry of Health activity projections, population projections, demographic data and service activity data.
- Proven ability to keep abreast of changes in external environment (e.g. new state-wide plans and directives, new developments in area, new models of care and technology, etc.) and ensuring knowledge of such changes are adequately addressed in NBMLHD planning efforts.
- Demonstrated experience in a healthcare or related setting.
