John Hunter Hospital invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Post Graduate Fellow in Spinal Surgery. The Post Graduate Fellow will have completed advanced training to become a specialist medical practitioner in Neurosurgery or Orthopaedic Surgery.
The successful applicant will provide high quality clinical care, diagnostic and consultative specialty services in Spinal Surgery at the level of a Post Graduate Fellow, and participate in teaching, research, quality improvement and administrative activities within the Spinal Surgery Department at John Hunter Hospital and Hunter New England Local Health District as required. They will ensure high standards of professional performance and contribute to an academic environment which supports education, research and professional development and will require a degree of flexibility and ability to manage competing demands on time, including being available and on call to support and manage patients with spinal pathology requiring emergency management within the Hunter New England Local Health District.
Eligibility criteria:
- Be a current medical practitioner registered or eligible for specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons with recognised qualifications in Orthopaedic Surgery or Neurosurgery and/or equivalent specialist recognition as provided for in the NSW Staff Specialist (State) Award. (Note: Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship prior to, or within three months of the expected commencement date, may be considered.) Consideration will be given to overseas doctors who meet the Limited Pathway for Short Term Training in a Medical Specialty Pathway and would be placed on the Medical Officers Award)
- Have demonstrated current Spinal Surgery clinical practice of a high standard consistent with the role of a Post Graduate Fellow, with ability to adapt clinical practice in accordance with contemporary evidence based practice.
