Where you'll be working:
John Hunter Hospital Engineering consists of 51 staff, and the Plumbing department is a collaborative team of 8 staff that look after all aspects of the Plumbing infrastructure for the John Hunter Campus and its ancillary buildings.

This is an opportunity to work for the largest employer in the region which services a population of more than 900,000 across the Hunter, New England, and Lower Mid North Coast areas. John Hunter Hospital is a Level 6, tertiary referral, major trauma, and teaching hospital.

The NSW Government has committed $835 million to redevelop the John Hunter and John Hunter Children's Hospital. The John Hunter Health and Innovation Precinct project will deliver an innovative and integrated precinct with industry-leading facilities.  The project will work in collaboration with health, education, and research partners to meet the current and future needs of the greater Newcastle, Hunter New England, and Northern NSW regions.

About the role:
As a Plumber at John Hunter Hospital’s Engineering Department, you will be performing general reactive work. This involves looking after hydraulic and drainage breakdown repairs, preventive maintenance, and testing, along with the construction refurb work across all aspects and areas of the Plumbing infrastructure.

About you:
You will hold a completed plumbing apprenticeship and relevant trade qualifications, including a Tradesperson Certificate of Proficiency and a full Plumbing Licence (or be willing to obtain a Certificate IV in Plumbing). You will have demonstrated experience in plumbing installation and maintenance, ideally with at least five years' experience in the trade, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

In this role, you will undertake reactive breakdown repairs, preventative and statutory maintenance, and general plumbing work across the plant areas of John Hunter Hospital, so experience working within a large health facility will be highly regarded. Post-trade qualifications will also be viewed favourably.

Applicants who can demonstrate at least five years' employment in the trade will be eligible for starting remuneration at Level 4, in accordance with the NSW Health Skilled Trades Award.

How you'll be supported:
You will work closely other trade qualified Plumbers in the department and will also be supported by John Hunter Engineering management. There are opportunities to undertake internal training through the MyHealth learning system and staff that undertake post trade studies may be supported with study leave.
