Applications will be limited to suitably qualified Infectious Diseases specialists currently employed within WSLHD. These will include Staff Specialists, Clinical Academics, Postgraduate Fellows, and Honorary Medical Officers.

Successful applicants will demonstrate a high level of competence in the provision clinical care in infectious diseases in the inpatient and outpatient setting, including in critical care infection, infections in the immunocompromised, HIV medicine, tuberculosis, surgical infections, infections in returned travellers, infections in pregnancy, emerging infectious diseases and high consequence infectious diseases as well as infection prevention and control and antimicrobial stewardship. Applicants will demonstrate capability for supervision of junior medical staff and medical students, and have a demonstrated track record in infectious diseases research.

The Centre for Infectious Diseases and Microbiology (CIDM) is based at the Westmead campus, Western Sydney Local Health District and Westmead Clinical School, University of Sydney. It incorporates comprehensive Clinical, Research, Teaching and Laboratory Service components of Infectious Diseases and Microbiology at Westmead. It hosts the NSW Specialist Service for High Consequence Infectious Diseases, incorporating the NSW Biocontainment Centre. Clinical services include inpatient, outpatient and consultative services and management of antimicrobial stewardship and infection control/hospital epidemiology at Westmead, together with HIV services in conjunction with Western Sydney Sexual Health and Tuberculosis service in conjunction with Parramatta Chest Clinic and the Department of Respiratory Medicine. Active research is undertaken in basic and applied science in the following areas: infections in immunosuppressed haematology patients and the critically ill, clinical epidemiology, antimicrobial resistance, mycology, virology, health informatics, HIV medicine, viral hepatitis, vaccine preventable diseases, emerging infections and infections of public health importance.

The Department of Infectious Diseases is closely affiliated with the Centre for Infectious Diseases and

Microbiology Laboratory Services (CIDMLS) of New South Wales Health Pathology - Westmead, which incorporates a large diagnostic service and public health microbiology reference laboratories as well as the CIDM Public Health communicable diseases/microbiology research and development program.

Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.

Selection Criteria:

·         Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.

·         Evidence of additional qualifications, skills and/or experience required for the practice of Infectious Diseases medicine.

·         Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical /Dental Practitioner including:

o    Proven ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team.

o    Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.

o    Excellent organisational, supervision and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships.

o    Maintaining and developing knowledge, skills and professional performance to the level required for contemporary practice.

o    Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and translation of research into practice to improve patient safety and quality.

·         Demonstrated experience in Infection Prevention and Control

·         Demonstrated ability to manage time and resources efficiently and contributing to the effectiveness and efficiency of the health care system.
