Lead, inspire and shape the future of peer support in mental health services.
 

Are you a passionate and experienced Peer Worker with your own lived experience of mental health challenges and recovery? Do you want to use your experience to influence service delivery, support others in their recovery journeys, and lead a dedicated peer workforce? 

South Eastern Sydney Local Health District is seeking an exceptional Peer Manager to provide leadership, mentoring and strategic direction for Peer Workers across our Mental Health Service. This is a unique opportunity to combine meaningful peer support practice with leadership, service development and consumer participation initiatives that make a real difference to people's lives. 

In this role, you will draw on your own recovery journey to promote hope, self-determination, choice and social connectedness while supporting consumers accessing mental health services. You will also play a key role in strengthening and growing the peer workforce, contributing to service improvement and ensuring the voice of consumers is embedded across the service. 

About the Role

As the Peer Manager, you will:

  • Lead, mentor and support a team of Peer Workers across inpatient and community mental health services.
  • Use your lived experience to promote recovery-oriented and person-centred care. 
  • Develop, coordinate and evaluate peer-led programs, activities and initiatives.
  • Oversee the planning, delivery and evaluation of high-quality Peer Work services across the Mental Health Service. 
  • Contribute to strategic planning and the ongoing development of consumer participation initiatives. 
  • Partner with consumers, carers, multidisciplinary teams and community organisations to improve recovery outcomes. 
  • Champion the value of lived experience and peer work across the organisation. 
  • Support workforce development through coaching, mentoring, performance management and education initiatives. 
  • Help shape and implement strategic initiatives that strengthen recovery-oriented practice and consumer engagement across the District.

Sutherland and St George Mental Health Services, located on both The Sutherland Hospital campus, Caringbah and St George Hospital campus, Kogarah.

Selection Criteria

To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the following criteria in your application:
 

  1. Personal experience as a consumer of Mental Health Services and ability to utilise the lived experience to support others in their own mental health recovery journey.
  2. Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or willingness and commitment to obtain.
  3. Previous experience in a Consumer Peer Worker role, with the ability to plan, implement and evaluate group based and individual peer led activities.
  4. Demonstrated experience effectively managing staff including ability to provide leadership, monitor and manage work priorities and develop performance of staff to achieve work objectives
  5. Demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic service planning and policy development for the peer workforce and consumer participation
  6. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
  7. Experience in the use of software packages including Word, Outlook, Powerpoint and other Microsoft Office applications.
  8. Current Drivers Licence (with a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position).
