The duties of a Part Time Patient Transport Driver include the routine and non-emergency transportation of hospital patients, as well as transporting Day Rehabilitation clients to and from the hospital.
In the case of an emergency arising during the course of a non-escorted transportation, the Patient Transport Driver is expected to apply the procedures from the training of the ‘Provide Advanced First Aid certificate plus the ‘Provide Advanced Resuscitation’ certificate and in case of an emergency arising during an escorted transportation to assist or respond to the direction of the clinical escort in the application of these procedures.
Basic first aid is expected in case of an emergency when transport DRU clients to and from the hospital
- Criteria 1: Current unrestricted NSW drivers’ licence and a proven excellent driving record – Service NSW transcript will be required
- Criteria 2: Current Provide Advanced First Aid and Advanced Resuscitation certificates
- Criteria 3: Experience in driving as a Patient Transport Driver with and without escort, in a hospital setting
- Criteria 4: Demonstrated patient handling and lifting techniques experience
- Criteria 5: Demonstrated ability with transport and handling of specialised equipment
- Criteria 6: Demonstrated good quality communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to work with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures
