About The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists to become part of the Orthoptic team at Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital on a permanent part time basis (24 hours per week) and temporary part time basis until 27th September 2026 (16 hours per week).

You will be working as part of a team that is passionate about providing patients with the highest quality eye care including patients presenting to Outpatients, Eye Emergency and those admitted to hospital.

You will also have access to professional development opportunities including reflective clinical supervision and be involved in quality improvement activities.

Where you'll be working
You will be based at Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital (SSEH) on Macquarie Street in the Sydney CBD. Located in the hub of the Central Business District, the Hospital is close to cafes, restaurants and shopping precincts.

The role

You will be assessing and treating patients attending orthoptic screening and therapy clinics, as well as specialty clinics including Neuro-Ophthalmology, Strabismus, Oculo-plastics, and Paediatrics.
 
You will also be providing ophthalmic diagnostic assessments in orthoptic-led chronic eye care clinics and in collaboration with ophthalmology sub-specialty clinics. These include Glaucoma screening clinics, stable glaucoma monitoring clinics, diabetic/retina screening clinics and a multidisciplinary cataract screening clinic including post-op care.

Selection criteria:

  1. Qualifications in accordance with Schedule C of the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award and registration with the Australian Orthoptic Board; and demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development.
  2. Demonstrated core competency skills, commensurate with years of experience, in:  Orthoptic assessment and management of amblyopia, strabismus, and ocular motility disorders  Ophthalmic assessment of Glaucoma, retinal conditions, neuro-ophthalmic conditions, and Cataract
  3. Demonstrated high level written, verbal and interpersonal skills, to both engage patients/clients and work effectively with the multi-disciplinary team.
  4. Demonstrated ability to exercise independent professional judgement in the provision of clinical care using evidence based practice, commensurate with years of experience.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to the use and application of professional and clinical digital technologies.
  6. Demonstrated participation or leadership in quality improvement processes and teaching, commensurate with years of experience.
  7. Ability to respond to the demands and pressures of the role while managing time effectively.
  8. Current drivers’ licence (or a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position)
